Located at Ram Ki Paidi, it is believed that around 2,000 years ago, King Vikramaditya rediscovered and restored this site, rebuilding the Ram temple. However, during the invasion of Babur in 1528, the then saint Shyamanand Saraswati, foreseeing the destruction, immersed the idol in the Sarayu River to protect it.
The idol remained in the river for approximately 220 years. In 1748, a Brahmin from Maharashtra, who was performing penance on the banks of the Sarayu, discovered the idol while bathing. He identified it as Kale Ram. The idol was then reinstalled in the Kale Ram Temple, located just behind the Nageshwar Nath Temple.
The Kale Ram Temple is considered one of the seven prominent sacred sites in Ayodhya.
According to the temple priest, Raghavendra Deshpande, this idol remained at the Ram Janmabhoomi for nearly 1,500 years. Today, thousands of devotees visit daily to offer prayers and seek blessings. It is believed that Lord Kale Ram fulfills the wishes of all devotees.
As per tradition, a visit to Ayodhya is considered incomplete without the darshan of Kale Ram.
